Research

Myself Hannah and Callum are thinking of making the opening to a teen film as our final project. We are going to watch as many teen related films as possible. We also think if we watch TV programmes such as Skins and Misfits we can get inspiration as to the stereotypical traits in this genre. We plan to watch the openings to Adulthood, Trainspotting, American Pie series and more films of the similar genre.

Editing

Today, Lauren has been editing the clips and making sure they work well together. She has been changing the volume in certain parts, for example the beginning when Callum is walking up the drive, the sound of cars in the background is too loud so she lowered the volume level. Also, transitions between the shots have been added to make the sequence run smoothy and not jump from one scene to another. This has been used between shots such as the end of Hannah and Callums phone conversation and the next scene in which Callum is walking up the drive. Credits have also been added to the film.

Filming

On Friday myself, Hannah and Callum managed to film everything we needed to. This meant we could give Lauren the camera on Saturday and she then edited the clips at home. Unfortunately Lauren didn't have anything with enough memory space to bring the edited clips on, so we havnt got the edited clips today. However we are going to edit them now and hopefully our edited version will be finished by the end of the day.

Progress

We now have a camera and tripod however we can't film until Friday as this is the only day myself Hannah and Callum are free. As Lauren has Premiere Pro at home she is going to edit the clips as much as she can. We will also do work in our free's on Monday to compensate for the lost time. Hopefully this means we will have our clip done by the deadline.

Problems

Unfortunately when we went to collect our pre-booked camera from Mrs Gibson we were told that it had been given to someone else and that our only alternative was to use an old camera with a tape. This camera was in need of charging for at least 2 hours which we couldn't do at home as it would be dark by then. As we didn't know how to use this camera we decided to leave it and we are going to go back tomorrow and see if any new cameras have been returned, if not we are going to use the old camera at the weekend instead of filming tonight. This also means we may not have the opportunity to use the rainy weather to our advantage as the weather may not stay the same. Hopefully tomorrow a new camera will have been returned and we can film on Sunday.

Research

We researched the connotations of certain parts of our film to make sure they would convey the correct message. We found that people walking in rain does convey sadness, so by having Callum walk down the street in the rain will show how he is upset. Also, when a boy gives a girl a bouquet it is often seen as the boy saying sorry and trying to cheer the girl up as flowers connote happiness. This was reinforced when we researched flowers and came across many pictures of flowers with smiley faces.

SWOT analysis

This is a SWOT analysis of our group's progress so far:

Strengths
- We blog all of our work and do so in detail.
- We try and make the most of what we have, e.g tonight we are taking the opportunity of the rain to set the mood for our film.
- Lauren has Premier Pro at home so if we needed to do editing outside of school we could.
- We do individual tasks in the group instead of everyone working on one thing, this means

Weaknesses
- Lauren lives quite far away from the rest of the group so it is hard to meet up outside of school.

Opportunities
- We have friends who are good at acting, if they were to act for us it would help make our film look more professional.

Threats
- There is a limited number of cameras so often we can only book 1, this means if we want shots from different angles we have to film it twice and watch out for continuity errors.
- With the nights darkening it will be hard for us to film in good light conditions afterschool.

Filming

Tonight myself Hannah and Callum are going to film our continuity task ask we feel the weather gives us a good oppertunity to set the mood as it is raining and will create a dull and emotional mood. Lauren won't be joining us in filming as she lives too far away and cannot make it, we also thought as she is the only person who understand Premiere Pro it would be fair if we did the filming as she will be doing most of the editing.

Script and storyboard

This is the script I created for our film, we plan to film the 2 scenes in different locations. Hannah and Callum will be acting.

Our film

Problems

We had some trouble exporting our film as the room we needed to use was unexpctedly needed by a year 8 class so we didnt have any time to export it. This ment we couldnt upload it to our blogs by the deadline, however we are now exporting the film so we can upload it to our blogs asap.

Filming

James Jordan and Abbas Ted played the gangsters and wore a suit, hat and tie as this made the roles more believable. We chose to film our movie clip near a church and graveyard in Witton Gilbert as the area fitted in well with the script and created a sense of mystery and secrecy. The area is rarely used apart from the odd few dog walkers and runners, which made filming slightly longer as we had to wait until there was nobody around so there wasn't any unwanted people in the shots. We also filmed in black and white to make the film look more authentic and believable, next time we will film in colour so we can choose between the two. We are now currently editing the shots in lessons and in our own time.

Sci-fi /Western

Niel, the commander, loses an important hard drive from his spaceship. Realising it fell down to earth, they set on a mission to retrieve it. However the enemy spaceship also knows that the hard drive has landed on earth. Both spaceships race to earth but due to the speed they end up in western times. The cowboys who find the hard drive on earth are fascinated by the strange device and make a shrine to it. This makes Neil's job to retrieve the hard drive even harder.

Our first videos

This is the first sequence of shots we took and it was the first time we had used the camera. We didn't have a tripod at this point so the shots were quite shaky.

This is the second sequence of shots we took, the videos are sped up so the sound quality isn't very good.
